In today’s business world, employers need to mind the gap—the skills gap, that is.
Change is happening quicker than ever. In the current economy, it’s said that the half-life of a learned skill is just five years. And as members of Generation Z begin to enter the workplace, 65% of the jobs they will fill have yet to be created.
Accordingly, one of the expected workplace trends in 2018 is a renewed employer focus on upskilling and retraining workers—as a direct response to that growing skills gap.
Training and development initiatives boost efficiency and productivity, and they’re a cornerstone of the annual Canada’s Top 100 Employers list.
The annual competition, established in 2000, identifies companies with the best employment practices in the country. The Canada’s Top 100 Employers list for 2018 was announced in recent weeks, and for the 16th time, Enbridge has earned a place on that index.
Following Enbridge’s merger with Spectra Energy Corp in February 2017, “it’s appropriate and worthwhile to pause and celebrate recognition like this,” says Marc Weil, Enbridge’s Chief Human Resources Officer. “It serves as an indication of how we will continue to come together as an energized and proud team.”
