Waupisoo Capacity Expansion Project
Due to increasing demand for pipeline capacity by our customers, Enbridge Athabasca proposes a capacity expansion to our existing Waupisoo Pipeline from 240,000 barrels-per-day (bpd) up to 550,000 bpd. The existing 380-kilometre Waupisoo Pipeline system carries Alberta oil sands crude from Enbridge Athabasca’s existing Cheecham Terminal, south to the Enbridge Pipelines Inc. Edmonton Terminal.
The proposed pipeline capacity expansion will be achieved through modifications at two of our existing pump station facilities, as well as the addition of four new pump stations:
New Pump Stations:
- Leismer Pump Station – Installation of four 5,750 hp pump/motor units
- Roundhill Station – Installation of three 5,750 hp pump/motor units
- Abee Station – Installation of three 5,750 hp pump/motor units
- Stonefell Terminal – Installation of up to three 5,750 hp pump/motor units
Modifications to Existing Pump Stations:
- Cheecham Terminal – Replacement of two existing 5,000 hp pump/motor units with four 5,750 hp pump/motor units
- Small Benn Station – Replacement of two existing 5,000 hp pump/motor units with three 5,750 hp pump/motors units
Installation of one 6,000 hp variable frequency drive (“VFD”) per pump will be completed at each of the six pump stations to provide primary pressure control. Auto Pig Bypass piping will also be installed at each station, with the exception of Cheecham.
