Our Environmental Partners

As a Canadian leader in energy transportation and distribution, corporate social responsibility has always been a priority. We believe it is simply good business practice.

And every day, our people do make a difference—from reducing environmental impact to the fair treatment of stakeholders to the highest standards of business ethics.

We are proud of this commitment from our nearly 5,000 employees. And we are proud to be one of five Canadian companies recognized as one of the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Enbridge's fleet of Honda Civic GX's, world's cleanest cars.

Pollution Probe

The Honda Civic GX. It holds the title of the world’s cleanest car. And 12 of them are part of our Toronto fleet of 600 low-emission natural gas vehicles driven by our Gas Distribution staff. We’ve also helped in converting hundreds of Toronto’s taxis to natural gas, reducing CO2 emissions by an estimated 10,200 tonnes over three years, or the equivalent of removing 1,360 vehicles from the road each year.

In these and other ways, we’re promoting the use of natural gas powered vehicles, providing a solution to the impact of emissions on urban air quality.

Pacific Salmon Foundation

The rivers and streams of British Columbia are legendary for their salmon runs. Ensuring healthy, sustainable and naturally diverse populations for future generations to enjoy is the vision of the Pacific Salmon Foundation.

The Foundation works with government and industry to support thousands of volunteers and community members to become active in salmon habitat rehabilitation and watershed stewardship. Enbridge is proud to support the Foundation’s efforts to improve habitats for recovering salmon populations.

Canadian Wind Energy Association

We’re contributing to a greener tomorrow by investing in renewable and alternative energy sources today. Wind power fits our strategy of working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and address the issue of global climate change. We are a partner in four wind projects which, when completed, will have a combined output of more than 270 megawatts—enough to meet the power needs of more than 100,000 homes.

Together, these projects represent a serious investment and commitment in a sustainable energy future for Canada.

Nature Conservancy Canada

Nature Conservancy of Canada researchers like Dr. Kristine Ciruna work to protect Canada’s most threatened natural habitats and the endangered species that call them home. Since 1962 they have secured a long-term future for more than 1,400 properties, totalling 1.8 million acres of woodlands, seashores, internationally significant wetlands, threatened prairies, and other regions.

Through a partnership with Enbridge, the Conservancy is conducting research to provide tools and data for identifying where and how to focus sustainable management efforts to safeguard British Columbia’s freshwater ecosystems.

Rocky Mountain Eagle Research Foundation

Peter Sherrington has an eye for eagles. Peter discovered the migration of Golden Eagles passing over Mount Lorette in the Canadian Rockies—the only known mass migration of the species. By partnering with Enbridge, Peter and the Rocky Mountain Eagle Research Foundation are able to work towards protecting the Golden Eagles and preserving their delicate flight paths.

Trout Unlimited

Fresh, cold water. A precious habitat for Canada’s native trout. And where Doug Cressman does his best work. With the support of Enbridge, Trout Unlimited is dedicated to maintaining the native trout population. Helping protect the delicate ecosystems critical to Canada’s rivers and streams.

The Pembina Institute's Green Learning Program

Developing green minds. And giving young Canadians an early start in environmental thinking. It’s the reason Enbridge supports the Pembina Institute’s Greenlearning.ca Program. Through the Greenlearning.ca website, students gain an understanding of climate change, energy efficiency, and renewable energy resources.
