Enbridge Energy Partners acknowledged as STAR performer

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has named Enbridge Energy Partners, L.P. (EEP) the Natural Gas STAR Processing Partner of the Year for 2006.

Presented in Houston at the annual Natural Gas STAR conference and awards ceremony on Oct. 23, 2007, the award recognizes companies that have made exceptional progress in reducing methane emissions from the previous year through the use of technology and recommended best practices. EEP eliminated about 2.2 billion cubic feet (bcf) of methane emissions in 2006, primarily through the efforts of North Texas field operations personnel, who used aerial infrared imaging to detect leaks and then eliminated those emission sources.

EEP joined the Natural Gas STAR program in 2004 as a processing sector partner and since then has been actively involved in all aspects of the program. This is the second time EEP has received this honor, having first won the award in 2004.

Our involvement in the Natural Gas STAR program is another way of showing our commitment to environmentally responsible operations," says Terry McGill, President of Enbridge Energy Company, Inc. (EEP’s general partner). "We are extremely proud and honored to have won this award two out of three years since entering the program."

The STAR program is a voluntary partnership between the oil and gas industry and the EPA to encourage cost-effective, market-based approaches to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Since 1993, Natural Gas STAR partners have prevented more than 220 bcf of methane emissions.
