What’s NewEnbridge recognized as Gold Champion Level Greenhouse Gas ReporterCSA Climate Change, GHG Registries has recognized Enbridge Inc. as a Gold Champion Level Reporter for 2007. Enbridge earned the honour by surpassing CSA Climate Change’s most rigorous reporting standards. The title recognizes the highest level of achievement in the Canadian GHG Challenge Registry©, Canada’s only voluntary national registry of greenhouse gas baselines, targets, and reductions. The registry’s objective is to challenge companies from all economic sectors and geographic regions to demonstrate meaningful actions that reduce Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions. “Enbridge has been a long time advocate of the important role that voluntary efforts can play in reducing greenhouse gas emissions,” said Paul Hunt, Director, Sustainable Development & Environmental Performance. “Through Enbridge’s early engagement on the climate change issue, the organization has built a solid foundation for managing emissions and has already achieved a 27 per cent reduction in direct emissions from its own facilities since 1990. These actions are examples of best industry practices and enhance our operating performance and competitiveness, generating energy and cost savings.” To be recognized as a champion-level reporter, companies must track and monitor their energy consumption, and submit this data to CSA Climate Change to be publicly accessible for comparison and review of best practices. Enbridge’s recognition as a Gold Champion Level Reporter is a reflection of the efforts of many individuals throughout the enterprise who have led the way to optimize our operations and to introduce improved technologies and management practices. While Enbridge is pleased with the significant progress we have already made in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, we plan to continue to expand our activities and capture new opportunities that offer further reductions and business growth potential. The challenge of climate change will compel our industry to reevaluate the energy services, policies, business models, and technologies of the recent past.
