Additional Contextual Information
Enbridge believes that our people are the basis of our success and the foundation of our vision of being North America’s leading energy deliverer.
Employment – Enbridge recognizes that engaging a highly skilled workforce will be critical to us as we move toward achieving our business goals. And, we are pleased to report that the results of our annual Employee Perspectives Survey indicate that employee engagement levels have never been higher, having increased from 62 per cent in 2006 to 67 per cent in 2007. Both of these percentages surpass the North American average of 56 per cent, and help confirm that Enbridge’s organizational reputation and people-focused policies are key strengths – and areas we will continually work on improving.
Diversity and Equal Opportunity – Enbridge’s diverse workforce is represented by multiple generations and members of minority groups. And, with increasing frequency, women are taking leadership roles. Of Enbridge’s total employee population as at December 31, 2007, 64 per cent of women were in supervisory roles and 15.38 per cent were in senior management roles (director level and above).
In 2007, employees once again confirmed the importance of the physical work environment in the feedback they provided in our annual Employee Perspectives Survey. Our Alternative Work Arrangements programs continue to contribute to our employees’ ability to manage their multiple responsibilities at work, home, and in their communities, and to enjoy a positive work environment. As part of those programs, Enbridge has embraced the following alternative work arrangements:
- Variable work hours
- Compressed work week
- Regular part-time employment
- Job sharing
- Working from home
Enbridge recognizes the important relationship between workplace flexibility and productivity, and between employee engagement and long-term commitment to our organization. Our support of alternative work arrangements strengthens these relationships, as well as our ability to attract talent in today’s competitive labour market conditions.
