Premier salutes Generosity of Spirit winners
Nominated by the Alberta Cancer Foundation, Enbridge was recently awarded the 2007 Generosity of Spirit Corporate Philanthropist award.
The Generosity of Spirit Program was created by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Calgary & Area Chapter. AFP recognizes that there are many individuals, families, groups and businesses who make outstanding contributions of time, leadership and financial support to countless organizations.
Thanks to the nomination from the Alberta Cancer Foundation and letters of support from other community partners like Fort Calgary, Trout Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited, Alberta Ballet and Alberta Theatre Projects, this is the first time Enbridge has received the accolade.
“We are extremely honoured by this special recognition,” said Patrick Daniel, President and CEO, Enbridge. “We have nurtured a special partnership with the Alberta Cancer Foundation over the past several years and we thank them for leading this nomination for the Corporate Philanthropist Award.”
In November 2005, Enbridge, along with the Alberta Cancer Foundation and the Canadian Cancer Society, Alberta/NWT Division, partnered to fund a new research chair in psychosocial oncology. Enbridge contributed $1.2 million, their largest community contribution to date.
“We know that the Alberta Cancer Foundation continues to do great work in the field of healthcare, with specific focus on cancer, and we are very proud to have partnered with them over the years,” said Mr. Daniel. “With over 149,000 new cancer diagnoses each year in Canada, the need for a compassionate and holistic multidisciplinary health care model is critical. We hope that through our contribution we can enhance patient quality of life and reduce the burden placed upon families, patients and communities.”
Mr. Daniel accepted the award on behalf of Enbridge at the Generosity of Spirit Reception held on Nov. 8 at the McDougall Centre in Calgary.
