Enbridge has once again been listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index North America.

Established in 1999, DJSI North America tracks the performance of the top 20% in terms of sustainability of the 600 biggest North American companies in the Dow Jones Global Total Stock Market Index.

"Taking care of business today is not just about performing well financially, but also striving for excellence in the area of corporate social responsibility – ensuring our operations are safe, minimizing their footprint on the environment, and investing in the communities in which we live and work," said Patrick D. Daniel, President and Chief Executive Officer, Enbridge Inc.

"Being listed on the DJSI enhances Enbridge’s credibility and profile with our stakeholders. This acknowledgement of our commitment to corporate social responsibility, and other similar recognition such as the Best 50 Corporate Citizens and Top 100 Employers in Canada, earn us goodwill and a ‘license to operate’ in the eyes of the public; contribute to investor confidence, and help to attract and retain good people."

The annual review of the companies that make up the DJSI North America index is based on a thorough analysis of corporate economic, environmental and social performance, assessing issues such as corporate governance, risk management, branding, climate change mitigation, supply chain standards and labour practices.

American companies account for 87.1% of the 139 listed for 2009, while 12.9% are Canadian.

Enbridge has been listed on the DJSI North America for the last three years.
