About the ProjectProject OverviewDilbit Pipeline (North-to-South)
Diluent Pipeline (South-to-North)
A preliminary route has been determined for the Fort Hills Delivery System. The proposed 510 km long route now includes several refinements based on public and one-on-one consultation with stakeholders. In addition, the initiating pump station at Fort Hills mine site has a station with up to three 5500 hp units. The Fort Hills Delivery System route has been chosen to minimize impact on known environmentally sensitive areas, parks, wildlife habitat, Aboriginal traditional territories, agricultural lands, residential communities, water bodies, existing and future industrial developments and areas where construction would be difficult. The route will follow existing pipeline rights-of-way, utility corridors and road allowances as much as possible within the project economics and scope. More than 65 percent of the proposed Project routing parallels these types of pre-existing infrastructure. Pump StationsThe Fort Hills Delivery System includes four pump stations - three for the dilbit pipeline and one for the diluent pipeline. The pump stations for the dilbit pipeline include the Fort Hills pump station (up to three 5500 hp pump units), the Cheecham pump station (up to four 5500 hp pump units) and the Small Benn pump station (up to three 5500 hp pump units). The pump station for the diluent line will be the Sturgeon pump station (up to two 5500 hp pump units). |
