Moving toward a lower-carbon energy future
At Enbridge, we recognize that climate change is a global issue and we all have a role to play in addressing it, including industry.
We believe that in order to make a real impact on climate change, there needs to be a collaborative approach that involves governments, industry and all Canadians to find solutions that protect the environment while ensuring we meet our collective need for energy at the same time limiting the release of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
Enbridge supports carbon pricing as an important mechanism for influencing energy consumption and the achievement of Canada’s GHG emissions reduction goals. We believe pricing mechanisms drive the best outcomes – by providing incentives to businesses to invest in conservation and technology that reduce emissions, and to consumers to use energy more efficiently. Our own experience delivering programs that help our natural gas distribution customers reduce their energy use, for example, has resulted in significant reductions. Since 1990, we’ve helped customers achieve reductions of 18 mega tonnes of CO2 – the equivalent to taking approximately 3.5 million cars off the road for a year.
As a Canadian energy delivery company with operations and investments in Canada, the U.S. and Europe, Enbridge is pleased to work with Canadian and international partners to advance solutions through the Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition that contribute to Canada’s ability to play a leadership role in reducing global emissions.
