Rapid growth in oil sands resource development calls for more heavy crude upgrading and refining capacity. BA Energy is constructing the Heartland Upgrader near Bruderheim, to create made-in-Alberta value added products and help relieve market constraints by upgrading oil sands output into lighter synthetic oil blends.
Enbridge Pipelines (Athabasca) Inc. has agreed to provide terminal and pipeline facilities for the Heartland Upgrader. The proposed Stonefell Project will provide tankage services and pipeline transportation for the upgrader’s feedstock and product streams.
