Environmental ManagementSafety and EnvironmentEnbridge Athabasca is committed to safety and environmental protection. Our policy is that the administration, planning, construction and operation of projects will be accomplished in a manner that minimizes potential environmental impacts and promotes the concept of sustainable development. Enbridge is working for and with our customer, BA Energy, to ensure site safety and security will be maintained during the construction delay, including the preservation of the partially completed facilities. Enbridge will ensure any commitments to suppliers, stakeholders or regulators are resolved. In addition to rigourous standards for pipeline design, construction and pipeline integrity monitoring and management for the Stonefell Pipelines, the Stonefell Terminal tanks incorporate a number of safety and environmental protection features. These include tank lot containment in excess of tank volume, tank lot liners, cathodic protection systems to protect the tank bottoms from corrosion, tank bottom leak detection and an internal epoxy coating to protect the tank floor from corrosion. Enbridge Athabasca does not anticipate any significant adverse effects to the environment during either the construction or operational phases of this project. The company will adhere to its environmental standards and procedures, consult with environmental stakeholders as required, and will follow its Environmental Guidelines for Construction during the terminal construction, all under the management and control of Enbridge Athabasca’s project team. The Stonefell Project is consistent with the land use plans for the Heartland Industrial Area and integrates closely with Strathcona County’s current land use patterns and policies for the area. |
