The Name Stonefell

On March 4, 1960, residents of the Bruderheim area saw a bright light streaking across the midnight sky followed by a loud sonic boom.

Reports of the incident prompted a local astronomer to begin searching for what he believed to be a large meteorite. He eventually found 15 meteorite fragments totaling 155 pounds, the largest of which weighed 47 pounds.

Enbridge Athabasca named its proposed Stonefell Project to commemorate this renowned local event.

Public Consultation

Enbridge Athabasca is carrying out a Participant Involvement Program for the Stonefell Project. This program, which commenced in the fall of 2005, provides the opportunity for input and participation by local communities and other stakeholders. Project representatives have met with – and continue to meet with – landowners and local authorities, information material has been distributed in the Project area and to other interested parties, and a community open house has been held.

The intent of the participant involvement program is to respond to questions and concerns, discuss options, alternatives and mitigating measures, and seek cooperation among all stakeholders. Enbridge Athabasca will continue to engage affected or interested parties on an ongoing basis through all phases of the Stonefell Project.

We continue to invite public input. Anyone wishing further information or to become involved in the consultation process for the Stonefell Project can call the toll free telephone line (1-866-647-2044) and leave a message. Inquiries will be responded to promptly.
