Sturgeon Delivery System

June 27, 2008 - Regulatory application for Sturgeon Delivery System filed with the ERCB

Enbridge Athabasca filed its application to construct and operate the Sturgeon Delivery System with the Alberta Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB) on June 27, 2008. Together with the Fort Hills Delivery System, the Sturgeon Delivery System is being proposed to provide pipeline transportation services to the Fort Hills Oil Sands Project.

Last November Enbridge Athabasca announced it had entered into an agreement with Fort Hills Energy, L.P. (FHELP) to design, construct and operate pipeline systems between the Fort Hills Oil Sands Mine and the Sturgeon Upgrader as well as between the Sturgeon Upgrader and downstream terminals. FHELP is a limited partnership made up of three partners (Petro-Canada, UTS Energy Corporation, and Teck Cominco Limited) as well as the general partner, Fort Hills Energy Corporation.

The Fort Hills Oil Sands Mine north of Fort McMurray, Alberta includes one of the largest remaining undeveloped oil sands leases in the Athabasca region, and is estimated by FHELP to contain more than four billion barrels of recoverable bitumen.

The proposed Sturgeon Delivery System consists of three pipelines to transport dilbit, diluent and synthetic crude oil between the Fort Hills Sturgeon Upgrader and industry terminals near Edmonton.

Enbridge Athabasca has undertaken comprehensive consultation and communications for both the Fort Hills Delivery System and the Sturgeon Delivery System with landowners and occupants near the proposed rights of way and with potentially affected First Nations and Métis communities. The participant involvement programs will continue throughout the life of each project.
