About the ProjectProject OverviewThe proposed Sturgeon Delivery System is approximately three 60-kilometre (“km”) pipelines to carry dilbit, diluent and Synthetic Crude Oil (“SCO”) between the Fort Hills Sturgeon Upgrader and industry terminals near Edmonton: Dilbit Pipeline (North-to-South)
Diluent Pipeline (South-to-North)
SCO Pipeline (North-to-South)
A preliminary route has been selected for the Sturgeon Delivery System. Several short re-routes along the proposed approximately 60 km long route of the Sturgeon Delivery System pipelines have been examined, further to landowner input. Enbridge Athabasca has communicated details of the proposed changes to those directly affected or adjacent to the route changes. The Sturgeon Delivery System route has been chosen to minimize impact on known environmentally sensitive areas, parks, wildlife habitat, Aboriginal traditional territories, agricultural lands, residential communities, water bodies, existing and future industrial developments and areas where construction would be difficult. The route will follow existing pipeline rights-of-way, utility corridors and road allowances as much as possible within the project economics and scope. More than 65 percent of the proposed Project routing parallels these types of pre-existing infrastructure. Pump StationsThe Sturgeon Delivery System will employ three pump stations. Two pump stations at the Fort Hills Sturgeon Upgrader will include one with two 5500 hp pump units and one with two 750 hp pump units. A pump station near Edmonton will include two 150 hp units on the diluent pipeline. |
