Environmental ManagementEnbridge Athabasca is committed to environmental protection. Our policy is that the administration, planning, construction and operation of projects be accomplished in a manner that minimizes potential environmental impacts and promotes the concept of sustainable development. Enbridge will gather information and conduct the field studies necessary to obtain environmental information about the lands where the pipelines and associated facilities are to be built. Enbridge will also assess the potential environmental impacts of the proposed pipelines, and implement mitigation measures. Enbridge will adhere to its environmental standards and procedures, consult with environmental stakeholders as required, and will follow its Environmental Guidelines for Construction during the Waupisoo project. Environmental Studies UpdateThe majority of the environmental field studies for the Waupisoo Project have now been completed. Field crews have been active along the proposed Waupisoo pipeline route throughout the spring and summer this year. Studies carried out have related to fisheries, soils, wildlife, and vegetation. Work related to archeological and palaeontological studies continues. Enbridge Athabasca will be submitting watercourse crossing applications to Alberta Environment, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, and Transport Canada. In addition, Enbridge Athabasca continues to work with both First Nation and Métis groups to complete traditional use studies. |
