Hydroelectric power

Hydroelectricity is the world’s leading source of renewable energy for electricity generation.

Hydro power meets about 7% of electricity needs in the United States, and in Canada—one of the world’s leading hydroelectric producers—it generates 60% of electricity used by Canadians.

Enbridge’s involvement with hydroelectric power began with the Wasdell Falls Hydro Power Project, which began operations in December 2015 on the Severn River near Washago, Ontario.

With three turbines generating a total of 1.7 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy, the Wasdell Falls project was the first in North America to use Very Low Head (VLH) turbine technology.
