Diversity, parity, and advancing women in the workplace

Enbridge earns a spot on Bloomberg’s 2019 Gender Equality Index

Take a variety of people and ideas. Establish them in an environment that prioritizes inclusion.

What do you get? A very powerful workplace.

Successful corporations know that diversity makes us stronger. Just last week, Bloomberg announced its 2019 Gender Equality Index—recognizing 230 companies, including Enbridge, committed to advancing women in the workplace.

“Enbridge took part in the GEI survey as part of our commitment to diversity and inclusion,” says Cynthia Hansen, Enbridge’s Executive Vice President and President of our Utilities and Power Operations division. “Over the past several years, we have been making concerted efforts toward transparency with respect to our company’s demographic makeup and how we aim to continue to improve in the future.

“While the Bloomberg GEI is focused on gender inclusion,” she adds, “Enbridge is continuing to strive for a workplace that is truly diverse—one where everyone feels welcome, valued and connected.”

The scope of Bloomberg’s 2019 Gender Equality Index reflects a movement of positive change. This year’s list more than doubled in size from 2018, and includes companies from 10 sectors across 36 countries and regions.

Companies named to the 2019 GEI have demonstrated transparency in gender reporting and advancing women’s equality in the workplace—voluntarily disclosing company information, policies, and community outreach efforts as part of the reporting process.

Collectively, the 230 businesses on the 2019 GEI companies have a market capitalization of US$9 trillion, and employ more than 15 million people—seven million of them women—around the world.
