As an American citizen, how are my dividends handled in an IRA?

Our Answer

Randy asked this question on July 11, 2018.

Hi Randy,

U.S. shareholders who own ENB through a tax-deferred account, such as an IRA, should not experience any withholding taxes or non-resident taxes, as an IRA is considered a tax-exempt “pension” for treaty purposes.

Shareholders should contact their broker for confirmation.
