Ashland, WI—On Friday, Enbridge met with the Secretary of Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) to discuss our ongoing response to the natural gas liquids (NGL) release in Saxon, Wisconsin, and the company’s ongoing construction of the Line 5 Wisconsin Segment Relocation Project. Enbridge values transparency and strong communication. At the forefront of all activities is the safety of people, property, and the environment.
Enbridge is planning to pause Line 5 Wisconsin Segment Relocation Project construction activities at the beginning of next week to conduct a project-wide safety stand-down for construction workers. This 48-hour period will commence on August 31, 2026, and will reinforce our existing safety practices and identify opportunities to further enhance our strong safety culture. Prior to the stand-down, the construction sites will be secured before a scheduled rest day on Sunday and the two-day stand-down period.
Construction on the Line 5 Wisconsin Segment Relocation Project has made steady progress across northern Wisconsin, with work remaining on schedule and key milestones advancing as planned. Construction crews have completed roughly 65% of project work, including more than 2,300 mainline welds. Crews are nearly complete with clearing the route, grading, and stringing pipe. Crews continue welding, ditching, lowering, and backfilling. Twenty-five bore crossings are now complete as are three horizontal directional drills (HDDs).
Including the inspection, environmental, safety, and cultural resources teams we have 700 people in the field currently on the relocation project.
