Fire Department Receives $10,000 Grant from Enbridge

FORT SASKATCHEWAN, ALBERTA (March 1, 2017) —The Fort Saskatchewan Fire Department was awarded $10,000 courtesy of the Enbridge Safe Community Grant. The money is being used towards the purchase of two thermal imaging cameras.
“These cameras are great pieces of technology that will help keep our citizens and crew members safe when responding to various incidents,” said Deputy Fire Chief Bill Heesing. “There are many uses for thermal imaging technology such as fire investigation, hazmat calls, motor vehicle collisions and search and rescue operations.”
The Fire department is familiar with thermal imaging cameras and multiple crew members are trained to use this technology. The new cameras are more compact and versatile from previous versions.
Enbridge’s Safe Community program provides financial support to first responders and safety driven organizations for the purchase of new equipment, professional training or educational programs. The program has provided more than $9.3 million to organizations across North America since its inception in 2002.
Through investments in partnerships and human capital, Enbridge supports organizations that contribute to the economic, environmental and social well-being of communities near its operations.
“The Fort Saskatchewan Fire Department’s efforts to update and modernize its thermal imaging equipment will contribute to a safer community for everyone,” said Scott Ironside, Enbridge’s Director Western Region Operations. “We are proud to assist equipping front-line responders with this new equipment to improve their response capabilities.”
