Enbridge responds to incident near Youngstown, Alberta

All free-standing oil from a release that occurred at Enbridge’s Youngstown, Alberta pump station on Friday, Oct. 2 has been recovered and sent to approved disposal facilities.

We have also removed the visibly impacted soil from within the Youngstown station as well as the small amount that went offsite. Third-party environmental sampling is ongoing and Enbridge will continue to focus on recovering any remaining impacted soil identified. The release is estimated at 126 barrels (20 cubic meters), with half a barrel going offsite.

The Canada Energy Regulator has completed an onsite inspection. There were no safety or environmental incidents during the response and clean-up activities.

Enbridge continues to respond to an incident that occurred on Friday, Oct. 2, at our pump station near Youngstown, Alberta (approximately 270 km northeast of Calgary) involving a crude oil release on our Express pipeline system.

Crews are onsite and cleanup activities continue. All of the standing oil offsite has been recovered. Cleanup activities will continue throughout the weekend.

The pipeline resumed operations the evening of October 2 after it was deemed safe to restart.

The Canada Energy Regulator was onsite Saturday to observe and monitor response activities. There are no immediate safety concerns and we are cooperating fully with regulators in our response.

Enbridge is responding to an incident that occurred on Friday, Oct. 2, at our pump station near Youngstown, Alberta (approximately 270 km northeast of Calgary) involving a crude oil release on our Express pipeline system. The release was discovered by Enbridge personnel. The line was immediately shut in and isolated. Crews are onsite and cleanup has been initiated.

There are no current safety concerns to the public or impacts to water bodies.

We have begun an internal investigation and are cooperating fully with regulators in our response. At this time, the volume of the release remains under investigation. However, an early volume estimate provided to the regulator is that approximately 20 cubic meters (126 barrels) has been released with less than 76 liters (half a barrel) migrating offsite into a farmer’s field.
