U.S. Army Corps of Engineers deems Great Lakes Tunnel Project application complete

May 12, 2020

Enbridge’s permit and approval process for the Great Lakes Tunnel Project is off to a fast start with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) now determining our application is complete. The USACE has set a public comment period through June 4.

This first determination, coming approximately one month after submittal, is significant and moves the process one step further to the tunnel becoming a reality.

Separately, the Michigan Department of Environment Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) continues to also review the application.

Last week EGLE sent a letter to Enbridge requesting additional information, which is a routine request during permit application reviews. Enbridge will work with EGLE to provide any necessary additional information.

Enbridge appreciates the timeliness and important feedback we are receiving from the permitting agencies.

Pending receipt of all necessary permits and approvals, Enbridge anticipates beginning construction of the Great Lakes Tunnel in 2021. We expect the replacement Line 5 segment to be operational in 2024.
