Williams Lake First Nation: Phase 1 of residential schools investigation

January 27, 2022

Results from the Phase 1 investigation at the former St. Joseph’s Mission Residential School by Williams Lake First Nation are another tragic reminder of Canada’s residential school system that must be acknowledged and should never be forgotten.

Our hearts go out to Williams Lake First Nation, the Secwepemc Nations and Indigenous peoples across Canada, including families of the missing children and their communities, the survivors and inter-generational survivors of residential schools. We cannot begin to imagine the depth of sorrow and suffering these communities are feeling in the wake of this profoundly disturbing news.

As an expression of sorrow and acknowledgment, Enbridge flags will be lowered. Without hesitation, Enbridge joins in the call for the expedient release of official records, documents and further investigations that may shed additional light on the victims of residential schools across Canada.

We heard very clearly from Chief Sellars that reconciliation is about education and awareness. Enbridge remains committed to ensuring all our employees have completed Indigenous awareness training by the end of 2022.
