Athens Optimization Project

Texas Eastern Transmission, LP ("Texas Eastern") is an interstate natural gas pipeline system. To meet the region’s growing demand for reliable, affordable energy, Texas Eastern is proposing to upgrade and expand the Athens Compressor Station in Athens County, Ohio. The project is designed to replace four 1950s-era 8,000-horsepower turbines with two new, more efficient 18,100-horsepower units, and this upgrade will enable delivery of up to 50,000 dekatherms per day (Dth/d) of additional natural gas deliveries.

Texas Eastern will obtain all required federal and state approvals before construction, which is planned for January 2027 with a target in-service date of early 2028. All construction will take place within the current station and use a temporary off-site wareyard. We will keep stakeholders informed and advance the project consistent with our commitment to safety, reliability, and environmental sustainability.
