Protecting ‘special pieces of property’
Landmark Conservancy works to permanently preserve and protect land in Wisconsin. Earlier this year the conservancy, Bayfield County and private landowners forged the Iron River Community Forest—860 acres of land near the Town of Orienta. The land borders the Iron River, a major coldwater fishery, notes Mike, a forester with Bayfield County. An Enbridge Ecofootprint grant has helped bring the concept to life, and open the forest to non-motorized recreation. “To pull off a project like this, it takes the right partners coming together. Enbridge came in at a great time,” says Erika, Conservation Manager with Landmark Conservancy.
