A life-saving tool when minutes count

A grant from the Enbridge Safe Community First Responder program has paid for an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to be placed in each of the Iron County Sheriff’s Department’s 11 squad cars in Hurley, WI. “We’ve been on scene (for accidents and other distress calls) as much as 20 to 30 minutes ahead of the ambulance because we’re so rural,” says Sheriff Paul Samardich. “The AEDs now arrive with the deputies on patrol, and can be used anytime we respond to a medical emergency. It’s another tool—a life-saving tool.”
