Texas Eastern purchases the ‘war pipelines’
The Texas Eastern Transmission Corporation was formed in 1947 to purchase the Big Inch and Little Big Inch pipelines from the U.S. government. The “war pipelines” were built in 1942 to deliver the oil that fueled American efforts during the Second World War, and were later converted to deliver natural gas. Today, the Texas Eastern system serves as the backbone of Enbridge’s U.S. natural gas transmission pipeline network. This video shows TETCO leadership purchasing the Big Inch and Little Big Inch in a November 1947 ceremony with U.S. President Harry S. Truman.
