Tracking important flight paths over the Upper Midwest
“We're creating useful data that can be used to manage and conserve these species. It's incredibly rewarding,” says Scott, executive director at Mackinac Straits Raptor Watch (MSRW), a nonprofit organization dedicated to the research and conservation of raptors in the Straits of Mackinac. On a corner of Enbridge’s North Straits valve site property in St. Ignace, MSRW caught and banded nearly 750 saw-whet owls last fall, with the goal of learning more about the species and their migratory patterns and monitoring population. “The work that MSRW does demonstrates the health of our environment,” says Lauren, Enbridge community engagement advisor. She adds, “These are key indicator species.”
