Hydrostatic testing: Performance under pressure

One of the final steps on Enbridge's Line 3 Replacement Project is hydrostatic testing of the new line. This involves filling segments of the pipeline with water and pressure testing the line beyond normal operating pressure. “We do that to show that the pipeline has been built to the (structural) integrity needed, and that it will withstand the operating pressure it’s been designed for,” says Megan, a Supervisor for Line 3 Technical Services.
