Canada’s first ‘big-inch’ natural gas pipeline
Construction began in 1955 on the Westcoast Pipeline. The long-haul pipeline, owned by Canadian oil magnate Frank McMahon’s Westcoast Transmission Company, has served as the backbone of the British Columbia gas industry since its completion in 1957. Enbridge’s Westcoast system now moves about 55% of the gas produced in BC, and supplies about 50% of natural gas demand in Washington, Oregon and Idaho. This video shows construction of the Westcoast Pipeline via suspension bridge over the Peace River near Taylor, BC.
