‘Every choice matters’: Focus, protection and care in the Straits

Erica Fink, Enbridge’s Escanaba Area Manager in northern Michigan, has a keen appreciation for nature as an enthusiastic mountain biker. “The trails test you, make you focus, be present and trust yourself. Out there it’s just you, the land and the next turn.” As part of her duties with Enbridge, Fink plays a guiding role at the Enbridge Straits Maritime Operations Center (ESMOC) in the Straits of Mackinac, which monitors shipping traffic, protects the environment and safeguards our dual Line 5 pipelines that run along the lakebed while Enbridge prepares for the Great Lakes Tunnel. “I’ve always found myself in roles where people count on me—in the Navy, as a volunteer firefighter, and now here at Enbridge. Different uniforms, same responsibility—to protect, to care, to pay attention,” she says. “At the ESMOC, we watch these waters and communities knowing that every choice matters.”
