How do I reclaim land on a right-of-way corridor for a dead pipeline?

Our Answer

Debbie asked a similar question on Sept. 4, 2016. Her question has been edited for clarity.

Hi Debbie,

That depends on a number of factors, including the location of the pipeline, who operated the pipeline, and whether the line is deactivated/decommissioned or abandoned. Enbridge continues to monitor deactivated/decommissioned lines, just as we would active lines.

To get you started, here are links to PHMSA’s National Pipeline Mapping System; (U.S.) or CEPA's About Pipelines map (Canada). If the pipeline in question is a line that Enbridge once operated, you can contact the Enbridge land representative in your area.
