Wind energy

Enbridge is one of Canada's leading suppliers of renewable energy. Since 2002, we have invested in wind energy projects in five different countries, totaling 4,870 MW (gross)—or 2,117 MW (net)—of wind-power capacity globally, based on projects either in operation or under construction.

Since 2015, our involvement in European offshore wind energy has grown significantly. Currently, Enbridge has a 24.9% ownership interest in the Rampion Offshore Wind Project in England, a 49.89% ownership stake in the Hohe See and Albatros Wind Projects off the coast of Germany, and a 25.5% and 17.9% ownership stake, respectively, in France's Saint-Nazaire and Fécamp offshore wind projects. We started construction in 2021 at the Calvados offshore wind project in France, in which we hold a 21.7% stake.

More recently, we started construction at our 24 MW Provence Grand Large Floating Offshore Wind project. We hold a 25% stake in the project, which will be deployed off France’s southern coast in the Mediterranean. Floating foundation wind turbines are tethered to, instead of driven into, the seabed, enabling offshore wind development in deeper waters than with fixed-foundation turbines.

Given our well-established renewables business and growing proficiency in wind power technology, these projects are a natural next step for Enbridge, as they further develop our expertise in the business and support our objective of developing new platforms for growth.

Enbridge's wind energy portfolio—including projects either operating, planned or under construction—now totals 16 North American wind assets, one UK offshore wind facility, two German offshore wind farms and four offshore wind projects in France.

Key facts about our wind power investments:

  • 23: Number of wind farms in operation, planned or under construction.
  • 2,117 MW: Total net generation capacity from our wind power investments (operating or under construction). Net capacity excludes our partners' stake in the projects.
  • 1,084,519: Number of homes our wind farms (operating or under construction) power each year, based on net generation.
