What cleanup process has Enbridge undertaken for the Line 21 leak near Willowlake River, NT in 2011?
Our Answer
Desiree asked this question on Nov. 26, 2017.
Hi Desiree,
Enbridge developed a Remedial Action Plan (RAP), outlining our approach to cleaning up and remediating the leak site. The RAP was based on Canadian federal, territorial and provincial environmental quality guidelines and was approved by our primary regulator, the National Energy Board.
The RAP established clean-up objectives and included soil remediation plans, groundwater treatment plans and site reclamation plans. Remedial measures are now complete.
Contaminated soil has been excavated and disposed of at approved off-site disposal facilities. Clean material has been backfilled into the excavation and a re-vegetation program has been implemented. Soil, groundwater and reclamation activities are complete and Enbridge will be submitting a closure request to the National Energy Board, which will include a Remediation Closure Report.
