Typically, the following activities require Enbridge consent:

• construction or installation of a new facility across, over, on, along or under an Enbridge facility and/or right-of-way
• operation or movement of vehicles, mobile equipment or machinery across an Enbridge right-of-way, outside of the travelled portion of a highway or public road
• use of explosives near an Enbridge pipeline right-of-way
• subdivision development across, on, along or over an Enbridge facility and/or right-of-way
• installation of agricultural drainage tile across, on, along or under an Enbridge facility and/or right-of-way

The “Crossing and Encroachment On-Site Application and Consent” (US version and Canadian version) may be provided in the field or through the Crossings group for specific crossing and encroachment activities that meet minimum technical requirements. Eligible activities may include:

• agricultural ground disturbance
• air bridge
• ancillary installations
• coaxial cable
• ditch restoration
• drain tile
• electrical less than 750 V
• fiber optics
• minor berms
• non-metallic pipelines NPS 6 and less
• poles, fence posts, KP/MP markers and signage
• road maintenance (resurfacing or re-gravelling)
• spreading soil
• vegetation control
• wheeled or tracked vehicle crossing, including compaction

The “Crossing and Encroachment Consent” (Canadian version and US version) is used for:

• proposed activities that are not eligible for on-site approval
• large infrastructure projects involving multiple crossing activities
• requests for deviations from terms and conditions

1. Applicant submits a completed application
2. Crossings or Field Representative reviews the information and determines if an additional Enbridge assessment is required
3. If an assessment is required or a change to terms and conditions is requested, the appropriate Enbridge group reviews the application
4. Crossings or a Field Representative prepares a consent along with any mitigation measures, as required
5. Applicant signs the consent
6. Applicant places a One Call and schedules an Enbridge inspector
7. Construction activities take place

Refer to the “Crossing and Encroachment Guide and Requirements (US)” or “Crossing and Encroachment Guide and Requirements (Canada)” documents for such information as activities that require approval, One Call and Click Before You Dig before construction begins, technical requirements and emergency contact information
3. Refer to the “Vehicle Equipment Form” to be completed for all equipment crossing locations
4. Refer to the “Crossing and Encroachment Typical Drawings” to guide you in preparing related drawings with your application
5. Submit your application to either crossingsCanada@enbridge.com or crossingsUS@enbridge.com
