Cape Cod Canal Pipeline Relocation Project
This project is the result of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ (USACE) determination that gas line relocation is necessary to address the ongoing maintenance and ultimate replacement of the Bourne and Sagamore Bridges—which carry traffic to and from Cape Cod.
For these important bridge replacement projects to occur, Algonquin Gas Transmission, along with other utilities, must relocate pipeline infrastructure. This infrastructure delivers natural gas to National Grid, and powers homes and businesses throughout Cape Cod.
Project construction will include the use of horizontal directional drilling—a common construction method which helps to reduce construction and environmental impacts for our neighbors. Please see this fact sheet for further information.
We will continue to communicate with our neighbors and other stakeholders throughout the project to address any questions which may arise.
The scheduled in-service date for the pipeline modifications and Sagamore meter stations is January 2028, and November 2028 for the pipeline modifications and Bourne meter stations.
These in-service dates are required to accommodate the Cape Cod Bridges Program.
