Strategic buildouts continue to position Enbridge as an industry leader in natural gas storage

Domestic demand. Offshore demand. Abundant North American supplies.

And, amid these substantial market forces, somewhere to store it.

Between escalating LNG feed gas demand, growing American reindustrialization and surging data center requirements, natural gas is a very hot commodity at the moment.

“It’s worth taking a moment to dive a little deeper into the growing North American gas storage market, and how we are positioned to serve our customers,” Enbridge President and CEO Greg Ebel said Nov. 7 during Enbridge’s 2025 third-quarter financial earnings call.

“This demand dramatically shifts supply economics and increases the importance of strategically located storage capacity.”

Already an important player with 10% of available storage capacity on the U.S. Gulf Coast, Enbridge announced Nov. 7 that we’ve sanctioned expansions of our Egan, LA and Moss Bluff, TX gas storage facilities to meet that demand.

An extra 23 billion cubic feet (Bcf) of capacity—16 Bcf at Egan and 7 Bcf at Moss Bluff—will be delivered in stages from 2028 through 2033 at a cost of US$0.5 billion.

The expansion will bring Enbridge’s working storage total up to 121 Bcf at our four USGC facilities, which include Tres Palacios, TX and Bobcat, LA.

“Through acquisitions and expansions, we have positioned ourselves as an industry leader in the storage space,” said Mr. Ebel. “We are connected to all operating U.S. Gulf Coast LNG export terminals, and continue to invest heavily in infrastructure to enable the future growth of North American LNG.”

Enbridge’s recent storage acquisitions include Tres Palacios, in March 2023, and Aitken Creek, BC, in May 2023. Earlier this year, Enbridge announced an expansion of Aitken Creek, the only gas storage facility in the province of British Columbia, to meet growing Western Canadian LNG export demand.

“Between Moss Bluff and Egan, as well as the expansion of Aitken Creek announced last quarter, Enbridge is now set to add over 60 Bcf of new natural gas storage directly adjacent to the major LNG centers in North America,” said Mr. Ebel.
