Folds of Honor scholarships empower military and first responder families to carry on the legacy of their loved ones
Liz was just three years old when her father died a hero while serving his country as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Air Force.
That little girl grew up with a dream—to follow in her dad’s footsteps by joining the Air Force and becoming a doctor dedicated to caring for military children and families.
Thanks to the support of a Folds of Honor scholarship, Liz is well on her way to achieving that goal—debt-free.
“In a few short years, Liz will be honoring her father’s legacy by caring for military families,” says Lt. Col. Dan Rooney, founder and CEO of Folds of Honor. “The gift of an education changes more than one life; it has the power to impact generations.”
Founded in 2007, Folds of Honor provides educational scholarships to the spouses and children of America’s fallen or disabled service members and first responders. With national headquarters in Oklahoma near Enbridge’s liquids pipelines operations at Cushing, the non-profit organization has awarded scholarships valued at more than $340 million to nearly 73,000 people in all 50 states.
“Through our academic scholarships, we give hope for the future to the loved ones of fallen or disabled service members and first responders,” Rooney adds.
Each year, thousands of students apply for funding of up to $5,000. In 2025, approximately 11,000 students received $53 million, but the need remains great. About 7,000 qualified applicants did not receive full funding due to a lack of financial resources.
In 2025, Enbridge was proud to contribute to this important cause with a $50,000 corporate citizenship grant. By supporting learning, Enbridge recognizes the role education plays in bringing out the best in people and helping build vibrant, healthy communities. This support will help Folds of Honor change the lives of even more students in 2026.
“The impact of an education provided by Enbridge reverberates beyond the individual student,” says Lt. Col. Rooney. “An education enriches families and communities.”
He adds, “The spouses, children and their beloved service member or first responder have sacrificed so much to keep our country and community safe. When something happens to these heroes, we’re honored to step in to care for the families.”
