Do Enbridge's pipelines affect any Indian tribal lands?
Our Answer
John asked this question on May 22, 2018.
Hi John,
Our pipelines crisscross North America, including Native American lands.
In the course of our community engagement relating to operations and projects, we regularly deal with 30 federally recognized Native American Tribes in the U.S., as well as more than 200 Indigenous Nations and groups in Canada.
Our dealings with Indigenous and Native American communities are based on trust and mutual respect. Additionally, we see our relationships with Indigenous communities as mutually beneficial—not only socially and culturally, but economically.
In short, building and maintaining sustainable relationships with Native American and Indigenous communities is integral to our business case.
On June 21, 2018, we released our 2018 Indigenous Rights and Relationships in North American Energy Infrastructure discussion paper, which examines how we’re applying our Indigenous Peoples Policy to our business decisions.
